Brief History
The Crafton United Presbyterian Church was born in October 1966 as the result of the merger of the former Bradford Avenue United Presbyterian Church (at the site of our current church) and the First Presbyterian Church of Crafton (at the site of where the Crafton Plaza on Crafton Avenue now is). The Bradford Avenue Church had originally been founded on July 12, 1905, and the First Presbyterian Church had been organized on February 26, 1885.
What We Believe
As part of the Presbyterian Church (USA), we joyfully affirm our belief that Jesus Christ is Lord. We believe that God is the Creator, who continues to guide history. And we believe that God calls men and women of all ages and races to gather together, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to carry the Good News to all people through what we say and do.
We look to the Bible as the chief way that we have of coming to understand who God is and what God wants for our lives. We believe that the sacraments of baptism and communion have been given to us by Jesus as special ways of celebrating Gods love toward us.
We believe that the bad news is that in some way we all fall short of what God expects from us. But the Good News is that God reaches out to us, despite our unworthiness, and welcomes us into Gods family. As Presbyterians, we believe that the proper way to respond to that wonderful gift of Gods love is by living lives of thankfulness.
